Adjunct Therapies and Activities

Residents have the choice to choose from a variety of adjunct programming. Art Therapy helps young adults and seniors explore their emotions, improve self-esteem, manage addictions, relieve stress, improve symptoms of anxiety and depression and cope with a physical illness or disability;

  • Music – Through listening and playing music, as well as song writing and singing, pain among patients reduces. Music therapy can help to relieve pain and reduce stress and anxiety for the patient, resulting in physiological changes, including improved respiration and lower blood pressure;
  • Fitness – An exercise therapist might also observe or help clients exercise and give them pointers to help make the most of their Fitness Training. Through exercise, clients will often learn to accept their bodies, boost their self-esteem and reduce stress in their everyday lives;
  • Animal Therapy – Animal Therapy can help reduce blood pressure and improve overall cardiovascular health. It can also release endorphins that produce a calming effect. This can help alleviate pain, reduce stress and improve the overall psychological state.

Yoga Therapy

  • A type of therapy that uses yoga postures, breathing exercises, meditation and guided imagery to improve mental and physical health.
  • The holistic focus of yoga therapy encourages the integration of mind, body and spirit.
  • Cooking Class – Cooking as therapy is effective because it encourages creativity. Cooking also makes people feel good about themselves because it provides a way to nurture others. This type of therapy is often partly aimed at teaching healthy cooking and eating skills to clients living chaotic lives.
  • Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Aromatherapy uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind and spirit and enhances both physical and emotional health;

Horticultural Therapy

  • Horticultural therapy helps improve memory, cognitive abilities, task initiation, language skills and socialization.
  • In physical rehabilitation, horticultural therapy can help strengthen muscles and improve coordination, balance and endurance.
  • Neck Massage – Along with relieving neck pain, receiving massage on a regular basis helps keep joints limber, which reduces your chances of pulling a muscle. Neck massage also improves posture, flexibility, range of motion, lowers blood pressure, heart rate and encourages relaxation and relieves stress.

Maintaining Quality Communities

We work diligently to keep our facilities looking clean and fresh. This is shown through new carpet, interior and exterior painting, as well as grounds and furnishings. Additionally, we work to accentuate special features. For example, we strive to provide physical wellness gardens within our communities, as well as organic vegetable and herb gardens. The gardens not only provide for physical activity but also provide for “Light Therapy”.

The Cottages on Mountain Creek and Bright Path Program are currently enhancing gardens and outdoor space. The current plan calls for a Yoga Garden with a designated Yoga Pavilion, as well as developing monochrome gardens (gardens that consist of all purple flowers and bushes). The creek that runs through Mountain Creek Road is also being enhanced and all homes are currently being updated with garden paths and sitting areas. Look for more as we work through our garden renovations.

Fitness and Gardening are strong parts of our Health and Wellness programming.

Trained Professional Staff

The best care we can provide comes for a sense of home and belonging. Our goal is to extend that feeling to our staff. Our staff supports each other, creating a culture of well-being for mind, body and soul.

Communities that Engage the Family

Our clients are special with stories of their own. Our caregivers are trained to respect and ensure the dignity of our clients and engage them in enjoying life’s simple pleasures.

It is often the little things that make a big difference in ones daily life. Our programming is wrapped around the “small things in life that make a big difference”. The following is a list of the “small things” that can make a difference in a person’s life.
